sommeil: a concert for sleep
If you’re a fan of Robert Rich’s sleep concerts, this will be of interest to you.
Tanner Menard has been working under Robert Rich’s guidance in re-creating what he did many years ago. An interesting twist though, is that Tanner asked for submissions from artists, sound designers, recordists… whoever wanted to be a part of the project, he asked that they send in their work or recordings to be remixed into a grand nine-hour aural sleep experience.
I decided to send in a number of field recordings I’d done the past year, not really knowing what would come of the project. I liked the idea and wanted to support it. Turns out I wasn’t the only one. Over 70 people from around the world have submitted audio for the project, and according to Tanner, there’s still more coming.
In a time where some people feel that ambient music is dying, it’s great to see so many people come together to work towards a common project. It’s taking place in New Orleans on April 11th and ending of the 12th. I wish I could be there to hear the results firsthand. However, I believe Tanner has plans on releasing it freely online some time after the show.
Anyway, another blathering from me. You can read the press release here:
